IMPACT’S Making an IMPACT Initiative Celebrates the First Half of 2016

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC: 21 October 2016 – In the first half of 2016, IMPACT’s employees continued their generous efforts via the Making an IMPACT community service initiative. Together, we held several fundraisers for various charities as well as a blood donation event.

IMPACT’s 3rd Annual March Madness Prizes Go to 3 Worthy Charities

In March, Jennifer Moen organized her 3rd annual March Madness charity bracket fundraiser. Thirty-two of our fellow employees, families, and colleagues entered 62 brackets for a chance to win the top 3 prizes for their charity of choice.

IMPACT is proud to support these charities, and we look forward to next year’s bracket winners!

IMPACT’s 3rd Annual American Red Cross Blood Drive

Also in March, Nancy Gasper-Smith (pictured to the right) and Lori Davis teamed up to organize IMPACT’s 3rd annual blood drive to support the American Red Cross.

The blood drive was supported by IMPACT employees and families, as well as other companies within RTP. At the end of the drive, the American Red Cross had 33 donors and was able to collect 31 units of blood. IMPACT sponsored the event by treating donors to pizza and a free cupcake from SmallCakes.

IMPACT Walks to Cure Cystic Fibrosis

3 IMPACT has been supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) through its annual Great Strides Walk since the early days of IMPACT.

In April, for the 3rd year in a row, Erica Allen spearheaded the CFF’s fundraising effort this year and rallied coworkers to collect $2315! The IMPACT team enjoyed a nice walk in Chapel Hill with family and friends (BJ Witkin and family pictured to the left). The Chapel Hill walk was 1 of nearly 500 walks nationwide to support the CFF mission to cure cystic fibrosis.

IMPACT’s Breakfast on the Farm with CORRAL Riding Academy

4 In May, Ashley Godfrey and Lena Randhawa shared their love of horses with IMPACT by hosting a fundraising event at the CORRAL Riding Academy. CORRAL uses a multi-step approach to change the lives of at-risk girls, offering equine-assisted therapy, academic intervention, vocational training, and mentorship. The majority of the horses on the farm are rescued as well, and the farm uses its program to heal both the girls and the horses, with amazing results!

IMPACT employees and family (Lena Randhawa and BJ Witkin pictured to the left) had a great time running around the farm, meeting the girls and horses, and chasing some chickens. We would like to extend a special thank you to Durham Catering for supplying breakfast for everyone!

IMPACT’s 3rd Annual Food Drive for Backpack Buddies

In June, Ann Brown (pictured to the right) organized her 3rd annual food drive for BackPack Buddies, a program through the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle that provides children with healthy meals using donated non-perishable food items. The need for food items is particularly high during summer vacation, when children are not in school and thus do not have access to a school cafeteria for daily meals.

Last year, Ann collected 201 pounds of food for BackPack Buddies. This year, she collected an amazing 230 pounds of food for children from food-insecure homes! We proudly support Ann’s efforts to help feed children in need.

As part of the Making an IMPACT initiative, IMPACT employees come together as a team for larger community projects several times a year. Projects are chosen based on charities or efforts that have strong connections to IMPACT employees and their families. In addition, IMPACT supports and promotes their employees’ efforts to give back to their community by providing them 4 hours of paid time off per month to pursue volunteer work.
