IMPACT Pharmaceutical Services Sponsors Blood Drive With The American Red Cross

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC: 15 August 2014 – IMPACT Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. (IMPACT), a pharmaceutical research and consulting firm located in Research Triangle Park, NC, supports their employees in hosting monthly events as part of Making an IMPACT, a community service initiative.

For the month of August, Kathy Elks worked with the American Red Cross to organize a blood drive for the companies located in Research Commons in RTP. The blood drive was supported by IMPACT employees and families, as well as other companies within RTP. Kathy was assisted by several Apex High School students, as part of their volunteer efforts for the National Honors Society.

Making an IMPACT would like to congratulate Kathy on a very successful event! A special thank you also goes out to the management of Building 4401 who allowed IMPACT to use vacant office space to host the blood drive. At the end of the drive, the American Red Cross had 39 donors (with 22 first-time donors) and was able to collect 37 units of blood, used to assist or save the lives of 111 Triangle area patients.

Kathy shared this personal anecdote as to why she chose to organize a blood drive for her Making an IMPACT monthly event: “Personally, I have been a regular donor since 2007. Many people don’t realize just how important blood donations are until they are faced firsthand with a medical emergency. In 2012, my father died from Stage 4 lung cancer. During the last 18 months of his life, he received many, many units of whole blood and platelets. Several times, the blood had to be delivered from Virginia which was over 150 miles away. It was during the hours while we waited that I promised myself that I would continue to be a donor as long as my health allows me to do so.”

As part of the Making an IMPACT initiative, IMPACT employees come together as a team for larger community projects several times a year. Projects are chosen based on charities that have strong connections to IMPACT employees and their families. In addition, IMPACT supports and promotes these employees’ efforts to give back to their community by providing them 4 hours of paid time off per month to pursue volunteer work.

IMPACT is a Contract Research Organization (CRO) located in Research Triangle Park, NC. Our team consists of drug development professionals who specialize in medical writing and quality control, drug development consulting, regulatory affairs, regulatory operations, project and program management, and early phase clinical trial management.
