IMPACT’S Making an IMPACT Initiative Celebrates the First Half of 2021

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC: 30 August 2021 – In the first half of 2021, IMPACT’s employees continued their generous efforts via the Making an IMPACT (MAI) community service initiative. As we all continued to work from home, our virtual charitable and community outreach efforts took new and creative forms!

Valentine’s Day Cards
In February, MAI sent Valentine’s Day cards to all our fellow IMPACT colleagues to show how much we value the unique contributions of each employee. It was our way of showing how much we appreciate the awesome folks we have the privilege of working with!

Group Paint Night

Also in February, MAI hosted a valentine-themed virtual group paint night for IMPACT colleagues and their valentines, led by Brandi. We provided paint kits with all the tools and materials needed to create masterpieces together.

March Madness Charity Bracket Challenge

In March, IMPACT hosted our 6th annual “March Madness” NCAA basketball charity bracket fundraiser! Many thanks to the IMPACT employees, family members, and friends who participated; together we raised $210! Following a matching donation from the MAI team, we were able to donate a total of $1210 to the top 3 charities: Triangle Community Foundation, Brennan Center for Justice, and the Carter Center.

Our participants have such diverse passions; the mission statements for the winning charities are as follows:

1st place chosen by Aaron Jones – the reigning champ!

The Triangle Community Foundation has a mission to inspire and mobilize giving, leadership, and action in the NC Triangle area. Child poverty, racial, ethnic, & age composition, and a pattern of significant growth are just some of the needs and issues that the Triangle Community Foundation is working to address by partnering with area nonprofits.

2nd place chosen by Holly Buchanan

The Brennan Center for Justice is an independent, nonpartisan law and policy organization that works to reform, revitalize, and when necessary, defend our country’s systems of democracy and justice. As an independent, nonpartisan law and policy organization, the Brennan Center conducts rigorous research to identify problems and provide in-depth empirical findings and compelling analyses of pressing legal and policy issues. They also pioneer and champion policy solutions, such as automatic voter registration and small donor public financing.

3rd place chosen by Amanda Derr

The Carter Center is guided by the principles of our Founders, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter. Founded, in partnership with Emory University, on a fundamental commitment to human rights and the alleviation of human suffering, the Center seeks to prevent and resolve conflicts, enhance freedom and democracy, and improve health.

Donation to Neal Middle School

In April, MAI provided an air purifier for the teachers’ shared office space at Neal Middle School. Neal Middle School is a public magnet school in Durham County, NC offering engaging coursework in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) for 6th-8th graders. As the teachers and students prepared to return to in-person learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, MAI was able to provide a supplementary protective measure for the teachers and staff.

Charity Auction for The Wake County Women’s Center

Also in April, MAI organized a Mother’s Day Auction, with all proceeds benefiting the Wake Country Women’s Center!  Our very own IT guru, Jac Camp, served as our Master of Ceremonies. Donated items included custom pet portraits, a variety of custom baked goods, and items from local NC businesses. Together, we raised $2,049 that was donated to the Center.

The Women’s Center is a multi-service crisis intervention and assessment center, located near downtown Raleigh, NC. They provide a safe, low-barrier, client-centered and trauma informed environment for homeless women, where they can begin the stabilization and healing process.

Backpack Buddies Food Drive

In June, Steph and Kasturi teamed up to continue the tradition of our annual Backpack Buddies food drive! Backpack Buddies supplies healthy food to area children over the weekend, when school breakfast and lunch aren’t available.

From Jacques Kittrell, the warehouse manager: “Thanks for providing us with 358 pounds of dry/canned goods today. We are very appreciative of this donation.” Thanks to everyone for donating to this important cause.

As part of the MAI initiative, IMPACT employees come together as a team for larger community projects several times per year. Projects are chosen based on charities or efforts that have strong connections to IMPACT employees and their families. In addition, IMPACT supports and promotes our employees’ efforts to give back to their community by providing them 4 hours of paid time off per month to pursue volunteer work.
