IMPACT’s Making an IMPACT Initiative Celebrates the Second Half of 2016

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC: 13 Dec 2016 – In the second half of 2016, IMPACT’s employees continued their generous efforts via the Making an IMPACT community service initiative. Together, we held several donation drives and fundraisers for various groups and organized a volunteer outing at a local food pantry. We also kicked off our 1st annual Season of Giving!

Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina

In July, Erica Allen organized a group outing of IMPACT employees and family members (Beth Pultorak’s husband and daughter, left) to volunteer at the Durham Branch of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. The Durham branch partners with other agencies to distribute food to nearly 650,000 people in central NC who struggle to access nutritious and adequate amounts of food necessary for a healthy life.

The Food Bank supplied large crates of zucchini and sweet potatoes that were donated from local farms. The IMPACT group spent several hours sorting fresh food into individualized bags for immediate distribution to people in need!

IMPACT’s 3rd Annual Crayons2Calculators Fill that Bus! Drive

In August, Elaina Howard (right) spearheaded the 3rd annual Crayons2Calculators Fill that Bus Drive! Crayons2Calculators helps more than 10,000 local children in need by providing their teachers with basic school supplies and educational tools.

Crayons2Calculators provided IMPACT with two bins to fill with school supplies. Elaina collected nearly double the amount of supplies that could possibly fit in the bins! Great job, Elaina and team!

Tour de Cure – American Diabetes Association

In September, BJ Witkin (left) joined thousands of riders from across the country in the 25th anniversary ride of the Tour de Cure. The Tour de Cure raises money to further the mission of the American Diabetes Association to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of those affected by diabetes.

BJ traveled to Austin, TX, to participate in the event. Not only did BJ successfully complete all 72 miles of the ride, but he also raised $1631 for the American Diabetes Association!

UNC Horizons

In October, Beth Pultorak (right) organized a donation drive to collect new/used items for families participating in the UNC Horizons program. UNC Horizons is a substance use disorder treatment program that offers a wide range of services for pregnant and/or parenting women and their children.

Thanks to her fellow colleagues, Beth filled her entire mini-van with donations for families in the program. What a great group effort!

IMPACT’s 3rd Annual Toys for Tots Toy Drive

In November, Nancy Gasper-Smith organized her 3rd annual toy drive for Toys for Tots, a US Marine Corp program that collects and distributes new toys as Christmas gifts to children in need. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver a message of hope and encouragement to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, and patriotic citizens.

Surpassing our efforts last year, IMPACT employees, along with other tenants in our office building, filled two bins with toys that Nancy brought to the US Navy & Marine Corps Reserves in Raleigh. We are proud and excited to support children in the Triangle area this holiday season!

IMPACT’s 1st Annual Season of Giving

In November and December, IMPACT kicked off its 1st annual Season of Giving! A series of mini-events were held on site throughout the holiday season to present IMPACT team members with the opportunity to donate their time during the workday and give back to the community.

Some of our events included writing messages in seasonal cards for families receiving Christmas packages from the Triangle Nonprofit & Volunteer Leadership Center; upcycling old items to make dog toys to be delivered to local animal shelters and rescue organizations, including the Triangle Beagle Rescue; and creating decorations to brighten up a patient’s door at a local hospital.

We also sorted donated clothing for Note in the Pocket. This organization works with Wake County Public School System social workers and several referral partners to supply clothing to children in the local community who are impoverished, homeless, or in need of clothing to wear to school.

We ended our Season of Giving by writing motivational messages on lunch bags for Urban Ministries of Durham (UMD), a local organization that connects with the community to end homelessness and fight poverty. Every weekday, UMD hands out 300+ bagged lunches to feed their clients a midday meal so they don’t miss important appointments or work.

The Making an IMPACT team extends a very warm thank you to everyone for their tremendous effort in making our 1st annual Season of Giving a huge success!

IMPACT is proud to support these organizations and give back to our local community! We look forward to next year’s Season of Giving!

As part of the Making an IMPACT initiative, IMPACT employees come together as a team for larger community projects several times a year. Projects are chosen based on charities or efforts that have strong connections to IMPACT employees and their families. In addition, IMPACT supports and promotes their employees’ efforts to give back to their community by providing them 4 hours of paid time off per month to pursue volunteer work.
